The Green Goddess

Although we know the chances are likely that avocado is already in your cart, be sure to also grab cucumber and aloe next time you do a grocery run. These ingredients all complement each other well in this Green Goddess face mask recipe.

Avocados are perfect for softening and replenishing your skin with essential fatty acids that simultaneously work to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Aloe’s role in this recipe is to fight bacteria and relieve redness in acne-prone skin. To tie it all together, cucumber soothes, cools, and reduces puffiness for a face mask that leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean. FYI: A little goes a long way in this recipe - save half the avocado for your best shot at guac.

Half ripe avocado
4 thin slices cucumber
1 tablespoon aloe

Mash all ingredients in a bowl using a fork. Or, if you have a blender, throw them all in for a quick spin. When you reach a soft, smooth consistency, coat your face with a thin layer and kick your feet up while it works its magic.

The Berry Beneficial

Fruits aren’t just for picking and eating. If you aren’t someone who enjoys snacking on fruit, maybe try getting your fix in the form of a face mask? This Berry Beneficial mask includes a handful of strawberries and blueberries.

Strawberries are high in salicylic acid, which is a popular acne-fighting ingredient. Blueberries, on the other hand, are rich in antioxidants and protect your skin against free radical damage. Use these two fruits sparingly to create a face mask that covers your skin with a thin layer. Warning: Keep away from house pets that may want to lick the recipe right off your face.

3 large strawberries
4-6 blueberries
Water as needed

Cut off the top of strawberries and add blueberries to a bowl. Mash with a fork or throw them in the blender and add water to achieve a consistent texture. When your creation starts to look like a smoothie, you’re doing it right. Lather onto skin and wait as the berries do their skin-supplementing thing.

The Cozy Oat

First milk and now face masks, oats have become a worldwide phenomenon that we honestly can’t get enough of. When combined with bananas, the Cozy Oat face mask is like a hug on your skin.

Bananas are great for your skin because they are rich in Vitamin A and give your body a boost of antioxidants. Oats give a soothing and calming sensation to irritated skin like no other. Caution: Set an alarm after putting this face mask on because you might start to doze.

Half a banana
1/2 cup cooked oats (cooled)

Add half a banana and cooled oats to the bowl. Mash the banana with a fork and combine ingredients with a spoon. Add splashes of water to get the consistency of your liking. Once the mask is well combined, cover your skin, close your eyes, and let the formula do the talking.

It’s important to note that all of the DIY face masks above should be used immediately after being combined. Keep each face mask on for around 5-10 minutes before rinsing off, however, if any tingling or irritation occurs, remove it as soon as possible. Fresh masks, like these, will not save well and any leftovers should be tossed.

Look forward to a night-in or your next weekend getaway by adding these DIY face masks to the itinerary. Spoiler alert: Your skin may never want to be in the same room as another drugstore sheet mask again.
